John Stezaker

The artist John Stezaker has been collecting photographic images of world cities from the early part of the 20th century for the past thirty years. His interest lies in the anonymous people that appear in these images by chance. Stezaker records and archives these scenes by isolating tiny details of larger images. These sequences of individuals, pairs and groups are the narrative of a large scale project entitled ‘The 3rd Person Archive’. YES collaborated with John and publisher Koenig Books to make an artist book of the project. The book shows each element of the work as 100% scale facsimiles of the original. To exactly reproduce each image a rare six-colour stochastic print process was used. The book is 296 pages, cloth bound with foil blocked typographic details.
